Compass of Indian Cinema.. Dadasaheb Phalke

54 years ago in 1969, on the occasion of the centenary of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered the father of Indian cinema, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting decided to give the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Awarded annually at the National Film Festival by the Directorate of Film Festivals.

Dadasaheb Phalke (1870-1944)


Director and producer Dadasaheb Phalke made India's first full-length feature film Rajaha Rishchandra. This film was released in 1913. In 1989, the Government of India instituted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his services to the field of cinema.

Hindi 28, Bengali 11, Telugu 7, Tamil 3, Malayalam, Assamese, Marathi and Kannada received one each.

53 people have received the Dada Saheb Phalke Award so far. The first recipient was Devika Rani. She was born on February 3, 1936 in Rangalpat, Tamil Nadu.

Waheeda Reha Mask will present the award at the 69th National Film Awards in 2003.

Waheeda made her debut on the silver screen with Akkineni Nageswara Rao's Days Changed (1955) in which she danced to the song 'Eruvaka Sagaro Ranno Chinnanna..', which enthralled the audience. After that, after acting in Jaya Simha with NTR, she entered the Hindi film industry and made her debut in the Hindi film C.I.D. Payasa in Hindi film industry. She impressed the audience with her performances in films like Kagaj Pool, Kalabazar, Baath Ek Raat Ki, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Neel Kamal, Chand V Ka Chand, Ram Auk Shyam, Khamosi, Reshma won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Aur Sher.

She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1872 and the Padma Bhushan in 2011 by the Government of India for her contribution to the development of Indian cinema. In 2008 Andhra Pradesh government won NTR National Award and three Filmfare Awards.


Kamal cast with Waheeda Rahman fell in love and got married and settled in Bangalore.

Paidi Jayaraj: Born on the soil of Telangana, he rose to the top of the Indian film industry and made Telangana famous at the national level. He was born in the joint Karimnagar district, now Jagityala, Paidi Jayaraj Hindi. Apart from this, he is a prominent actor who has acted in more than 300 films in various languages including Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Punjabi, Konkani, Gujarati and Malayalam.
