TL;DR: Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi faced heat after saying he wants a grandson to continue his legacy, making many call his words sexist. Critics argue such comments promote gender bias, while supporters think it was just a light-hearted remark.

At a recent film event in Hyderabad, Chiranjeevi shared that he feels like a "ladies' hostel warden" at home, surrounded by granddaughters. He expressed his wish for his son, Ram Charan, to have a boy to carry forward their legacy. He joked, "I'm scared that he might again have a girl."

These comments didn't sit well with many. Congress MP Jebi Mather called them "very sad" and "unfortunate," emphasizing that both boys and girls are assets. CPI-M leader Brinda Karat labeled the remarks as "crass" and "sexist," pointing out that they reflect a preference for sons, which is harmful in a country where gender bias is still prevalent.

On the flip side, some fans believe Chiranjeevi's words were taken out of context and were meant in jest. They argue that desiring a grandson doesn't necessarily mean devaluing granddaughters.

This incident has ignited a broader discussion on gender preferences and the importance of valuing both sons and daughters equally. It's a reminder that words from influential figures can have a significant impact on societal attitudes.

MediaFx Opinion: In a society striving for #equality, such comments, even if made in jest, can perpetuate outdated gender norms. It's crucial for public figures to promote messages that uplift and value all genders equally. The working class, especially, benefits from a culture that champions #genderparity and challenges traditional biases.
