The Madras High Court asked a petitioner how one can be forced to vote. Ramkumar from Tiruchchendur, Tamil Nadu said, 'According to law, employees are taking paid leave on polling day. It should be made mandatory for them to submit a certificate stating that they have voted," he petitioned. The trial court ruled that the certificate cannot be ordered.
