What is Naegleria fowleri? 🦠🍽️ Naegleria fowleri is often called the brain-eating amoeba. It is a microorganism commonly found in water bodies and soil. People are at risk of contracting this infection by swimming and diving in contaminated water. When water containing amoeba enters the body through the nose, the bacteria in it reaches the brain.
