767 inter-caste marriages supported by Telangana scheme in 3 years

In a quiet but significant shift, Telangana has seen 767 couples receive support for inter-caste marriages over the last three years.

The incentive comes under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme linked to the Protection of Civil Rights Act, aimed at encouraging marriages that break caste barriers.

In simple terms: the government is financially supporting couples who marry across caste lines.

While the number may seem small in a large state, it reflects an ongoing push to challenge deeply rooted social divisions. Inter-caste marriages in India often face resistance from families, communities, and sometimes even threats to safety.

Why this matters: caste remains one of the most powerful invisible systems shaping relationships, opportunities, and social mobility in India.

Subtle system angle: while incentives exist, the relatively low number shows how structural and cultural barriers still limit how far such policies can actually go without broader social change.

For Gen Z, this sits at the intersection of love, identity, and social reform where personal choices still collide with inherited systems.

The question isn’t just how many couples applied but how many still hesitate.
