Maxwell hit the joint quickest ton by an Australian in T20Is alongside Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis's 47-ball centuries that helped Australia pull off their highest successful run chase in the 20-over format.🏏🎉
Glenn Maxwell snatched the headlines from Ruturj Gaikwad as his fourth T20I ton lifted Australia to an improbable five-wicket victory in a run-fest the third T20I in Guwahati on Tuesday, keeping them alive 2-1 in the five-match series.
Maxwell’s 48-ball 104 not out with eight sixes and as many boundaries ensured Australia pulled off their highest successful run chase in T20Is over India, winning off the last ball.
It was the right-handed all-rounder’s fourth T20I ton, equalling the mark of Rohit Sharma while his 47-ball 100 was the joint fastest by an Australian in the 20-over format, equalling the mark of Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis, who achieved it at Vizag in the first match of the series.
In a 223-run chase at the Barsapara Stadium, Australia needed 21 runs off the last over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, and he smashed the last two balls for boundaries to confirm victory.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s maiden international century had lifted India to a huge 222/3 and it looked they were well positioned to seal the series after winning the first two games by convincing margins in Vizag and Trivandrum. But though Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals, Maxwell along with skipper Matthew Wade (28, 16balls, 3×4, 1×6) kept hitting big shots and win it on the final ball of the game.🏏🎉
