Painting And Understanding Abstract Art

In simple terms, abstract means to withdraw something from something else. This term can be generalized to an object, landscape or human subject since abstraction does not coincide with visual reality.

Painting and Understanding Abstract Art

Throughout centuries, abstract art is seen to depict virtues of order, purity, simplicity and spirituality. The overall goal is noticeably different from representational art and, thus, should be evaluated differently too.

If you really have to pin an abstract art down in words, think of it as the mere opposite of representational or realistic art. While the latter expounds every wrinkle on the art, the former gives artists the freedom to trust their intuition and create a masterpiece worthy of the same audience.

As human beings, we are bound to look for answers until our mind is at peace. If curiosity is one of the most common human emotions, it is also a relatively dangerous one. In the case of abstract art, this emotion can allow your mind to wander in search of specific answers the art does not aim to depict. It is the forceful nature to find a story or meaning behind a visual element in abstraction.

You have to learn to accept that abstraction does not aim to tell a story. The artist does not want you to decipher a particular meaning, but encourages imagination and involvement. This means that it is an emotional experience that is personal to each individual viewer and provokes different forms of representational realities.

Similarly, rather than divulging into just one aspect of the painting, you will allow yourself to submerge into the overall imagery. You will allow your eyes, mind and observational senses to wander around, trying to grasp the first few emotions when you come across the abstraction.

Abstract art can be appreciated in terms of each individual element; color, line, shape, symbol, texture, space etc. The artist's strength lies in their ability to create a strong composition of each or all the elements and provoke an emotion in the viewer. However, while trying to understand and observe each abstract image, it is important to keep some points in mind:

Germany expressionism comprises saturated color palettes that correspond with human emotion. Wassily Kandinsky, a German Expressionist artist, is popular for using vividly colored paintings to depict his emotions. He believed music also corresponds to abstraction with its ability to represent reality without showing any form of it.

An artist may decide to interpret a subject differently than how it is seen. Any way that an artist presents this view that deviates from reality is considered abstraction. If an artist decides to paint a portrait that is representational in every way with the exception of the skin tones being blue, then this is abstraction. If an artist chooses to break down every object in a painting into its simplest shapes, then this is abstraction (Minimalism).

Certainly what abstract art looks for is concentration of the painting so that you identify with it, I like the artist Gabino Amaya Cacho who creates beautiful works with style of abstract Pointillism.

Many believe that abstract art is hard to understand and interpret, often leaving the viewer frustrated or confused. Our minds have been trained, since we were young, to find the right answer, leaving no room for creative thinking or interpretation. Unfortunately, this is how many view abstract art, as if they must find a correct answer.

If you were to ask these questions of ten people, each might give you a completely different answer. So who is correct? The answer is everyone because even though there could be several different answers to the same question, each answer is an individual interpretation of this abstract art piece.

Abstract art requires that you think and interpret things on your own, in a freeing manner; it is truly what you make out of the piece. You may not like every abstract piece you encounter, but hopefully you will take a second look and allow your imagination and creativity to take over. The beauty of abstract art is that the painting starts in the mind of the artist and ends in yours.

My oil painting technique is called Dialuminism (\u201Dlight passing through\u201D) and embeds metal leaf and oil paint within layers of solar protective resins. The light plays off some areas and casts shadows beneath others, creating a dimensional painting that changes in appearance depending upon where the viewer is standing in relation to the light source.

Are you one of the people who "get" abstract art or do you need a little help? Well, if you need help, don't feel bad. You are not alone. I have felt your pain. Landscape painting is easy enough to understand. A large rendition of a mountain landscape can be an awesome statement piece. But not all wall art is so easy to understand is it?

"This is where our brief foray into the wonders of abstraction comes to a close. While this short list may not help you understand your next trip to your local modern art museum, it may alleviate some of the pressure to understand it in the first place.

This guide to abstract art covers the history of abstraction, its evolution and affiliation with abstract expressionism and surrealism, and the latest abstract art. If you're looking to buy abstract art, take a look here.

While Kandinsky was a successful painter during his lifetime, af Klint's rejection of the limelight meant her work was not recognised until much later. She kept her paintings largely private with few exhibitions; convinced the world was not ready for her vision. She made her relatives promise that her paintings should not be unveiled until 20 years after her death, meaning her work languished in relative obscurity until 1986 when they began to receive serious attention.

Abstract art continues to evolve today. Lee Ellis's portraits use surface and depth to depict the inner turmoil of his subjects; colourist Barbara Krupp's works play boldly with form; Nick Malone explores the boundary between abstraction and realism, encouraging the eye to travel across an archaeology of marks, words and textures.

Matthew Dibble is one contemporary artist who carries the mantle of abstract expressionism. After spending decades working in construction, he brings a firm sense of form and structure into his new career as an artist. Dutch sees an army of black and grey marks dance vigorously across the canvas. The piece feels rapid and rebellious, as if the silhouettes have been liberated; freed from suffocating structure. Rabid Shakespeare, however, mixes form and formlessness, with crowds of jostling, energetic brushstrokes calmed and carved into place by strong clean lines.

Abstract photography is when photographers absorb and replicate the aesthetic and techniques of the abstract art movement. These photographers use a combination of everyday objects, scenes and photographic techniques to create images consistent with other types of abstract art.

Like Crane, Kimberly Poppe also uses her camera to unlock new ways of seeing. Her landscapes are more evocative of Rothko's paintings than the ocean vistas they actually are, with the American abstract expressionist being one of her major influences. In Into The Blue, two bold yellow lines mark the horizon against a backdrop of multi-tonal blue and Remains of the Day also sees a calm, grey sea blend into the skyline. In The Bridge, that horizon is interrupted by distant and distorted neon lights.

The purpose of abstract art is to empower the abstract expressionism. We call this art abstract because it exists beyond or by somehow by defying the existing rules of visual reference that one is used to.

Abstract expressionist paintings are actually canvases with loud colors and conceptual designs. Not just paintings, this form of creativity is also evident in sculptures and with the 3d gallery and watercolor paintings.

Developed in the 1940s in New York, abstract expressionism is the post World War II form of painting. After receiving an overwhelming response for this movement, New York City soon became the center of the western art world.

The term "Abstract Expressionism" was coined by the art critic Robert Coates and was first publicly used in a German magazine, Der Sturm in 1919. You may find a number of fantasy books and novels associated with abstract art expressionism!

Some of the best abstract paintings and landscape painting are made in this form because brushwork is often loose and very rapid. Viewing works of Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and Robert Motherwell will give you an in-depth insight of the gestural skill.

However, it is important to note that abstract art and abstract expressionism are slightly different. Abstract expressionism can be considered a part of abstract art. Abstract expressionism historically has its roots in United States post World War II.

Understanding Abstract: People often misunderstand abstract art because they are looking for something real and concrete with which they can identify. Professional abstract art is often about much more than what you see on the surface of the canvas. It may be about the process itself, the artist may be using symbolism, or the artist may have reduced something visible to its abstract essence.

It is natural to try to name and make sense of what we experience and perceive in the world. So pure abstract art, with its unrecognizable subject matter and unpredictable shapes, colors, and lines can prove challenging. Many people see no difference between the art of a professional abstract painter and the art of a toddler, making it that much harder to find meaning in it. 041b061a72
